Around and around I go
Posted by maggiemyklebust
One of Khloe’s favorite pastimes is chasing her own tail. She’ll spin around and around in hope of catching it, but she never does. Sometimes I feel like I’m chasing my own tail as well. Meaning – nothing I ever do seems to get done!
I can spend the whole day washing clothes, go to bed, wake up and the basket is full again!
I go food shopping twice a week and yet we’re always out of something.
I sent my first child off to school in 1982 and my last child still has two years left to go. That means I’ve been packing gym clothes and school lunches for thirty years now! Don’t even get me started on the homework (If I’m not helping, I’m nagging them to do it).
Day after day, year after year, Its my job to decide – WHAT to make for dinner? I don’t even mind cooking it as much as I hate deciding WHAT to make.
And as hard as I try, I just can’t seem to get my inbox empty these days either (I guess thats thanks to blogging)
I’m not complaining… Well, maybe just a little.
My husband works and travels a lot, so its hard to count on him for any of the ongoing tasks that keep our house running. Instead, he’s in charge of projects and repairs. These things can take weeks, even months to finish, but eventually they get done and he can move on. After he’s finished everyone will praise him for a job well done, or tell me how lucky I am to have him. Sometimes I wish our roles were reverse and he could chase his tail for a few years…
He just called me outside to show me the new project he’s started. He’s building steps from our house, which sits on top of a cliff, down to the water.
I took this picture to show you what he’s up to…
I better go – I think I hear the dishwasher peeping…

hey you got a dishwasher 🙂 me i have to pay the oldest to do it and she still moans! i point out that i pay her but she stamps about and whinges oh crikey the joys of motherhood 🙂 have a lovely day tomorrow, when it will start all over again 🙂 xx
I grew up in a house without a dishwasher and being the oldest girl, I usually got stuck washing… Now I just scrape the dishes, rinse them, load them, take them out and put them away… I’m not sure my life got any easier 🙂
I thought with my kids grown that the “above” would stop. No. It just slows down a bit! Encouraging, huh? What a huge task your hubby is taking on. Cannot wait to view the “after”! At first glance, I though Kholoe was smoking a cig. GTK that was not the case! 🙂 (written while I hear the dryer buzzzzzzing!) 🙂
No, we don’t let the girls smoke 🙂
ps
I’ll be sure to post the after pictures of my husbands project when he finishes (2 years from now) In the meantime I wonder how many loads of laundry I will have done?
We don’t let our girls smoke, either. 🙂 Will look forward to the “after” pics. As for the laundry….mine is calling!
Ah…I can identify with your chores list:) My grandkids think that life is all fun and games when you “retire” and I can do whatever I want all day! I’ve tried to explain to them that life goes on – there is still cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry, bill paying, etc. – well, I must say the timing of when we choose to do chores is better:)
I guess we’ll never go jobless 🙂
Reading your coment on Crazy Train To Tinky Town, I thought, I followed Maggie? [as I see your comments on a few posts I follow also]… ah, in my Reader. Fixed now. And came across to your post that says it so well, “tail chasing”. Oh dear, this is so me too. The G.O. usually works 6 long days, and although he will do what he can when he can, the mantle of Domestic Goddess is mine. Every now & then, I say “bugger it” and give the cleaning, food shopping and prep, etc a miss, and hate the outcome so much, that I pick it up again, not necessarily with good grace, but grateful I have the skills to care for me, the G.O. and our life. I’m just can’t enjoy life with piles of dirty dishes & washing, living on takeaway, so I keep working on balance as well. And that is like a dog chasing a sunbeam…
Same here… I’ll just keep on doing, because I’m to much of a control freak to let it go 🙂
There are several years between my children and I can totally relate to the feeling that the school stuff/washing /cleaning is never ending!
Love the pics (particularly Khloe with the feather- so cute!!!)
😀
After 30 years, I go to school meetings watching all the excited parents volunteering for everything, while I hide in the corner biding my time… just two years left!
Then I go home and continue cooking and washing – thats a life sentence 😉
This..
Day after day, year after year, Its my job to decide – WHAT to make for dinner? I don’t even mind cooking it as much as I hate deciding WHAT to make.
You took the words right out of my mouth! My mom used to complain of the same thing, and would ask ME what she should make for dinner…i would just shrug and give her a blank look.
NOW i get it….
Those stairs look like they will be amazing…
🙂
Yes I’m sure they will, I just wonder how many meals I’ll have to plan before they’re done 😉
I am very envious of your life.
You wouldn’t envy me today, I have a giant headache – ouch 😦
LOL, Maggie! 🙂 I love your sense of humour and your ability to just ‘get on with it’! You are one busy and very patient woman! 🙂
Ha, thanks, but I don’t think my family would agree 🙂
