15 clues you’re in Norway

You know you’re in Norway When:

  • Summer comes and goes on the same day.
  • There is no such thing as bad weather, just not the right clothing.
  • Frozen (Grandiosa) Pizza is the National dish.
  • You only hear Swedish jokes at a party.
  • There is no alcohol sold or served on Election Day.
  • The most popular pastime is walking.
  • No one you meet smiles or says hello.
  • No two towns in the whole country talk with the same dialect.
  • The most popular cheese is brown.
  • Everyone has to pay for the National television station, whether you watch it or not.
  • mayonnaise is sold in a bag.
  • Things are only sold in small sizes.
  • Everything shuts down in July, because everyone’s on vacation.
  • You pay more for Norwegian oil here than anywhere else in the world.
  • People can (hopefully) take a joke.

  1. Way to go Maggie – balls of steel! I love it!

  2. I need to do this on your blog, but I don’t know how 😦

  3. Careful there with the Swedish jokes. I’m Swedish!

  4. How come you didn’t offend the Danes?

  5. Miss Footloose

And why do you live there? 😉

  6. Frozen pizza! I never would have guessed!
This is such an interesting tongue-in-cheek and candid glimpse, here. So nice to vicariously travel with you, and with a bit of humor and honesty. Thank you, Maggie! ~ Lily

  7. He he he… I agree, that is pretty ballsy! Very amusing. It upsets that people don’t smile and say hello to one another. My man was in the Czech Republic for three months and when I went to visit I thought it was a wonderful place but people just didn’t smile at one another and that was really difficult for me, didn’t make me feel good at all!

    • Well I have to admit after living 15 years in Norway, it drove me a little crazy when we moved to Houston and I had to make small talk with every other stranger that passed… I guess some Norwegian rubbed off…

      • Oh no, really? 😦 When I first moved up here I was upset that many people behaved in the same way… After a while, I just decided to smile and say hello anyway. People can frown if they like!:)

      • Its funny, sometimes it felt so good to receive a smile and a nod, other times you’re like, whatever!

  8. The Russians are much the same and don’t smile or say hello. We moved from there to the mid-west USA and at first it was nice to see people smiling but it became a bit too much for me. Could everybody really be that happy??? 🙂

    • It really doesn’t bother me either when strangers don’t smile or say hello…
But when people I know pass me by without even a nod it makes me wonder, have I done something wrong?
